In this post I have decided to write about the American sitcom Friends. Many of you have seen all the episodes multiple times, and in case if you haven’t then tune in and watch!
In case you do not now what I am talking about, then here is a very short brief: Six friends live in New York, each with a distinct character. The show centers around these characters living their lives and spending time together. The show is filled with good plots and well thought humor.
The thing I like about the show is that once you complete all the seasons you can watch any episode despite the plot as each episode is as a small masterpiece on its own.
One thing that has puzzled me when I watch the show how could they hang out so much in the “Central Perk” cafe during the working days so I guess their jobs were not far from the cafe so they had more time to hang out in the cafe during lunch breaks haha.
Central Perk Cafe Set
The place I would want to visit is the filming set of the coffee house called “Central Perk” that they used during filming the show. It is located in California.
In case you are somewhere near I add a map for you of the location.
Subtitles – a great way to learn languages
When I was learning English I watched some of the episodes repeatedly even only in mp3 and learned the lines by heart and the knowledge of phrases and sentences I could actually apply in the real world when speaking. Now it is really handful to download subtitles in foreign language for the exact episodes and read aloud the lines in the foreign language. Yes the lines in subtitles might be not be a perfect translation although I found them to be pretty close. I already remember what the translation should be and and I even can visualize the situation from the series and I feel this is good way to aid my learning of a foreign language.
I will give a little guide where and how to download the subtitles from. 1. Head to this link https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/ssearch/sublanguageid-all/idmovie-2872 2. Choose an episode by clicking on the title. 3. Pick the translation (see the flag) and CLICK on the 5th column which contains the letters – srt. 4. You will be requested to download .zip file which contains the translation file .srt which can be opened using Notepad or any other text editor.
